Advice From The Pros

Safety Concerns for Electric Fireplaces:

  1. Do not use other fuels (gas, oil, liquid fire starter) in the operation of this appliance.
  2. This appliance is for outdoor use only; it is not intended for installation in any building, garage, or enclosed structure.
  3. Clothing or other flammable materials should not be placed on or near this appliance.
  4. Installation of the gas connection should only be done by a qualified installer, service agency, or gas supplier.
  5. Young children and adults should be warned of the high surface temperatures to avoid burns or clothing ignition.
  6. Never leave the appliance unattended while in operation.
  7. Do not attempt to disconnect the gas or any fitting while unit is in operation.
  8. When the appliance is not in use, it should be covered to protect it from weather and other elements.
  9. LP gas cylinders must be marked and constructed in accordance with specifications for LP cylinders by the U.S. Department of Transportation.
  10. Inspect the fuel supply before each use of the appliance for leaks in hoses and fittings.
Troubleshooting your Electric Fireplace:
  1. If you smell a gas odor, check all gas connections.
  2. If you have a delayed ignition:
    — A. Check gas supply;
    — B. Clean burner ports; and
    — C. Clean burner orifice.
  3. If your burner won't stay lit:
    — A. Shield from the wind;
    — B. Check the valve and pilot light; and
    — C. Check the gas supply.
  4. Burner flame looks incorrect, check burner ports for clogs.
  5. Remote control won't work, check batteries in remote and receiver.
  6. Hot surface ignition won't work, make sure the unit is plugged in to 110 power.
  7. Gas logs are sooting up, move further apart for better air/gas flow.
  8. Valve will not operate:
    — A. Check for proper air flow around appliance;
    — B. Check pilot leads for breaks or corrosion; and
    — C. Check for 110 power to remote control.
  9. Appliance whistles when operating, check gas line for kinks.
  10. Flame looks too large when first fire is lit, check you have the correct gas orifice (LP or Natural) for the gas being used.
